More Bangladesh missions abroad observed the 91st birth anniversary of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib, wife of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, in a befitting manner.
The High Commissions and Embassies organised various programmes, including laying of wreaths at the portrait of Bangamata, special prayers, discussion, screening of documentary film on Bangamata and reading out of messages from the President and the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
High Commissioner Muhammad Imran led the officers and staff of the mission in laying the wreaths at her portraits at Bangabandhu Corner at the chancery building.
At the meeting messages from President Abdul Hamid was read out by Md Nural Islam, Minister (Political), from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina by AKM Atiqul Haque, Counsellor (Commerce), and from State Minister for Women and Child Affairs Fazilatun Nessa by Tehsina Nasrin, Second Secretary.
Brig Gen Md Abul Kalam Azad, defence adviser at the mission, also spoke on the occasion. Zakir Ahmed, second secretary, conducted the meeting.
Later, a documentary on the life of Bangamata Fazilatun Nessa Mujib and a bengali film “Tungiparar Miah Bhai” were also screened. According to a press release received from the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC, a programme was organised at the Bangabandhu auditorium on Sunday marking the day.
Bangladesh Ambassador M Shahidul Islam delivered a speech highlighting the commitment of Bangamata to her family and her influence in the life of Bangabandhu.
Md Shameem Ahsan, Bangladesh ambassador to Italy, Montenegro and Serbia, paid his deep tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangamata Fazilatun Nessa Mujib and all the martyrs who courted martyrdom on the night of August 15, 1975.
