Bangladesh Coast Guard has seized a fishing trawler and detained 13 fishermen for illegally intruding in the Bay of Bengal near west side of Mongla inside Bangladesh maritime boundary.

Lieutenant Commander Amirul Haque, Bangladesh Coast Guard media official, said “Bangladesh Coast Guard Ship Sonar Bangla was patrolling the Bay of Bengal at around 12.25am on Saturday when it saw a foreign fishing trawler illegally fishing in the waters of Bangladesh.”

“Sensing the presence of the ship, the trawler tried to flee, Coast Guard patrol ship chased them and detained them from 15.4 nautical miles southwest of Mongla Fairway Buoy in Bangladesh’s waters,” he added.

Later, the seized trawlers and 13 detained Indian fishermen handed over to Mongla Police Station for legal action.
