The daily coronavirus infection rate has dropped slightly over the last few days to 24.52 per cent as of Sunday.

The infection rate was around 30 per cent for around a month. The infection rate was 26.65 per cent on Saturday and 26.25 per cent on Friday.

However, the number of daily deaths is still over 200 in the country.

Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said 241 corona patients have died and 10,299 infection cases have been detected in the last 24 hours till Sunday morning.

It said the highest of 264 deaths was recorded in the country on August 5 and the highest of 16,230 cases were reported on July 28.

The number of total infections has reached 1,353,695 with a daily positivity rate of 24.52 per cent while the overall infection rate has risen to 16.68 per cent.

Besides, the national death toll has jumped to 22,652 with a case fatality rate of 1.67 per cent.

The country has seen more than 100 single-day deaths from the virus for 43 consecutive days. This is the 15th day in a row that the country reported over 200 deaths in a day.

Some 1967 coronavirus infected patients died and 104,211 infection cases have been reported in only eight days of this month. A total of 3,36,226 people were infected with the virus and 6,182 patients died across the country in July, which is the highest since the pandemic began.

Of the 241 fresh deaths reported in the last 24 hours, 105 were reported in the Dhaka division while 59 in Chattogram, 12 in Rajshahi, 30 in Khulna, six in Mymensingh, 10 in Rangpur, seven in Sylhet and 12 in Barishal division.

Of the 10,299 new cases, 4,576 were logged in the Dhaka division while 373 in Mymensingh, 2272 in Chattogram, 723 in Rajshahi, 673 in Rangpur, 612 in Khulna, 479 in Barishal and 591 in Sylhet division.

Around 16,627 corona patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries to 1,205,447. The recovery rate has stood at 89.05 per cent.

A total of 40,130 samples, out of 42,003 collected, were tested at 707 labs in the country during the period. With this, 81,17410 samples have so far been tested across the country.

The occupancy of general and ICU beds in Covid-19 units and hospitals across the country has also been increasing day by day while many hospitals are now overwhelmed with Covid-19 patients.
