Bashundhara Group distributes relief in Sirajganj

Bashundhara Group, a leading business conglomerate of the country, distributed relief among distressed people in various upazilas of Sirajganj district on Saturday.

The Kaler Kantho, one of the reputed vernacular dailies of Bashundhara Group, provided the relief through its social organisation Shuvasangha.

In Kazipur upazila, 300 ultra-poor families took relief from Bashundhara Group at Upazila Parishad field.

Rezaul Karim, a carpenter, received relief and heaved a sigh of relief. Earlier, he was busy with works for his efficiency and reputation in the area. Now, he has no earning due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“You have given me food in the critical time of my life. I will benefit from the relief. I tender my thanks to Bashundhara Group,” he said.

Speaking on the occasion, lawmaker from Sirajganj-1 Tanvir Shakil Joy said, “August is the month of mourning. Bashundhara Group has turned the mourning into strength. I hope that the noble act of Bashundhara Group will continue in the days to come and other corporate houses will follow the example.”

Kazipur Upazila Chairman Khalilur Rahman, UNO Zahid Hassan, OC Panchananda Sarker and Shuvasangha Director Jakaria Zaman were present at the event.

In Raiganj upazila, 300 poor and destitute families received relief from Bashundhara Group at Saliagari High School.

Naim, a primary student, received the relief on behalf of his family and expressed joy. “I tender my thanks to you all. After reaching home with the relief items, my father will buy me ice-cream,” he said.

Upazila Chairman Imrul Hossain Talukder said, “Bashundhara Group is set to distribute relief among 2 lakh vulnerable people across the country. I tender my thanks to Bashundhara Group Chairman for the charity. The Group has taken a commendable step in the critical juncture of the country. No other corporate house has come forward.”

Saliagari Union Parishad Chairman Raisul Hasan Sumon, Saliagari High School headmaster Mahbub Talukder and Shuvasangha Director Jakaria Zaman attended the programme.

In Tarash Upazila, Shuvasangha distributed relief items among 300 poor and destitute people at Banshata field.

Rabeya Khatun, an elderly woman, received relief and said it will be of great help to her. She has neither husband nor child. She lives in a house of nephew. She is struggling to survive amid the pandemic.

Addressing the programme, lawmaker from Sirajganj-3 Prof Dr Md Abdul Aziz hailed Bashundhara Group for standing beside the destitute amid the pandemic. He also tendered thanks to Bashundhara Group for the noble job.

UNO Md Rezbaul Karim, OC Fazle Ashik, Shuvasangha Director Jakaria Zaman and Kaler Kantho Bureau Chief Limon Bashar, among others, were present.
