239 arrested for defying rules

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Friday arrested at least 239 persons for beaching the rules of lockdown and roaming on roads unnecessarily amid the surge of COVID-19.

The mobile courts also fined 74 persons Tk 90, 410 for violating the health guidelines, said a DMP press release on Friday.

It also said the traffic division of DMP fined 295 vehicles Tk around 7 lakh in various charges including violating the instruction of the government.

Meanwhile, highway police have seized as many as 40 long-route buses for ferrying passengers on the Dhaka-Tangail highway of Gazipur in violation of lockdown restrictions.
