Sheikh Kamal’s birthday observed

The 72nd birth anniversary of Sheikh Kamal, the eldest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was observed on Thursday across the country.

On August 5 in 1949, Sheikh Kamal, younger brother of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was born at Tungipara in Gopalganj.

To mark the day, Awami League, its associate bodies and different political, socio-cultural and sports organisations was observed the birth anniversary, maintaining health guidelines.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina released a Tk 10 valued commemorative postage stamp, a Tk 10 opening day cover and a Tk 5 valued data card at a simple ceremony at her official Ganabhaban residence marking the birth anniversary of Sheikh Kamal.

The Prime Minister also unveiled the cover of a book titled “Chiro tarunner protik ononno Sheikh Kamal” (the symbol of eternal youth unique to Sheikh Kamal), published by the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

Marking the day, an international shooting competition titled ‘Sheikh Kamal International Air Gun Championship’ was held. The Bangladesh Handball Federation arranged Shaheed Sheikh Kamal Handball exhibition match competition.

Earlier, leaders and activists of Awami League and its associate bodies paid tribute to Sheikh Kamal by placing wreaths at his portrait on the Dhanmondi Abahani Club premises in the morning. They also paid homage by placing wreaths at his grave at Banani graveyard in the capital.

Dhaka city north unit of AL distributed food items among orphans and poor people in the capital.
