Ex-BAU proctor Dr Azharul dies

Dr Azharul Haque Tapu, former proctor of Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU), passed away in a hospital on Tuesday night while undergoing treatment for dengue and coronavirus. He was 52.

He breathed his last in Square Hospital at 11:00pm. Azharul Haque was admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital on July 26 with coronavirus and dengue.

Later, he was shifted to Square Hospital for advanced treatment following the deterioration of his health condition.

Dr Azharul Haque Tapu was a professor in the Department of Animal Breeding and Breeding Science of BAU.

He has been the director of sports training department and the provost of Shaheed Jamal Hossain Hall. He has also held various key positions in the University Teachers’ Association and the Democratic Teachers’ Forum.

Dr Azharul Haque joined BAU as a lecturer in 1997 and was promoted as a Professor in 2010. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
