‘AL to help make mass inoculation a success’

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Wednesday said the party will launch a mass campaign across the country to make mass vaccination programme of the government a success.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already instructed the leaders and the activists of the Awami League and its affiliated bodies to make this vaccination programme a success,” he said.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, made the statement while speaking at a special meeting with presidents and general secretaries of the AL Dhaka city units and its affiliated organisations at the party’s Bangabandhu Avenue central office in the capital.

The meeting aimed to coordinate the party's programmes, chalked out on the occasion of the Mourning Month - August, and inspire the country’s people to make the mass inoculation programme a success.

Presiding over the meeting, Quader said the mass vaccination programme will begin at ward level of union parishads across the country on August 7 and it will continue until August 14.

The AL general secretary said the party’s leaders and workers at all levels will take the vaccine as well as they will encourage people to get vaccinated.

Coming down heavily on BNP for carrying out propaganda against the government, he said although the government is taking proper steps to protect the lives and livelihoods of the people amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the BNP continues spreading falsehoods.

Quader said when the month of August comes, the BNP's annoyance goes up. “And denying the history, the party wants to cover up its offences,” he added.

He said the involvement of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman in Bangabandhu's killing was reflected in the confessional statements of the self-declared killers of Bangabandhu.

The killers wanted to stop the progress of Bangladesh by killing Bangabandhu, Quader said, adding that in absence of the Father of the Nation, his daughter Sheikh Hasina is leading the country to take it forward.

AL leaders, including Matia Chowdhury, Dr Abdur Razzaque, Abdur Rahman, Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Dr Dipu Moni, Dr Hasan Mahmud, AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Ahmed Hossain, Abu Syeed Al Mahmud, SM Kamal Hossain, Mirza Azam, Afzal Hossain, Mrinal Kanti Das, Asim Kumar Ukil, Habibur Rahman Siraj, Sujit Roy Nandi, Abdus Sabur, Meher Afroz Chumki, Samsunnahar Champa, Biplob Barua, Aminul Islam Amin and deputy office secretary Sayem Khan, among others, were present.
