Bashundhara Group distributes relief in Naogaon

Bashundhara Group, a leading business conglomerate of the country, distributed relief among distressed people in different upazilas of Naogaon on Wednesday.

The Kaler Kantho, one of the reputed Bengali national dailies of Bashundhara Group, provided relief through its social organisation Shuvasangha.

In Sadar Upazila, Shuvasangha distributed relief among 500 ultra-poor families. The relief distribution took place in Naogaon KD Govt High School and Chandipur Board Madrasa.

Speaking on the occasion at KD Govt High School, Naogaon deputy commissioner Md Harun-or-Rashid said “I thank Bashundhara Group and Shuvasangha for providing relief among poor amid this pandemic situation in the country. Bashundhara Group has come up with this noble initiative responding to the call of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.”

UNO Mirza Imam Uddin, who attended relief distribution at Chandipur Board Madrasa, also hailed Bashundhara Group and Shuvasangha for the charity.

“The working-class people are the worst affected by Covid-19. Their income declined seriously. The relief from Bashundhara Group means a lot to them,” he said.

Widow Dole Begum is a person with disability in the area. She lives in another person’s house along with her only daughter and son-in-law. Her son-in-law is a rickshaw puller with limited income.

Receiving relief at Chandipur Board Madrasa, she burst into tears with joy. She said “We keep body and soul together with some money earned by my son-in-law. I am happy with the relief from the Bashundhara Group.”

Former principal of Naogaon Govt College Shariful Islam Khan, Naogaon district education officer Md Lutfor Rahman and Shuvasangha director Zakaria Jaman, were present, among others.

In Raninagar upazila, 250 distressed families received relief from Shuvasangha at Kujail Bazar field.  

Attending the programme, Anwar Hossain Helal, lawmaker from Raninagar-Atrai constituency, said “I thank Bashundhara Group for distributing relief. It is giving relief to 3,000 families in our district. We expect the noble act to continue.”

Upazila parishad chairman and freedom fighter Abdur Rouf Dulu, UNO Sushanto Kumar Mahato, and Shuvasangha director Zakaria Jaman were present.

In Atrai upazila, 250 destitute families received relief from Bashundhara Group. The relief distribution took place in Kashiabari Bazar field.

Mahi Akter is an autistic girl. She lives in her grandfather’s house. Aged 16, Mahi came to the relief group in a wheelchair. Shuvasangha handed over relief to her grandfather.

Top Para union parishad chairman Ganbax said, “Bashundhara Group and Shuvasangha have done a great job by supporting the vulnerable people. Had other corporate houses followed example of Bashundhara Group, poor people would have spent better days.”
