264 more dengue patients hospitalised

The dengue situation has been deteriorating in the country, particularly in Dhaka city, as 264 more dengue patients were hospitalised in the country in the last 24 hours till Tuesday morning.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 788 dengue patients were hospitalised in only three days of August while 2,286 dengue patients in July, 272 in June, 43 in May, three in April, 13 in March, nine in February and 32 in January.

It said over 100 single-day dengue patients were hospitalised for 11 consecutive days and over 200 for three consecutive days. Earlier, 287 dengue patients were reported on Monday.

The DGHS said 248 new patients were hospitalised in the capital and 16 patients were outside the city in the last 24 hours till 8:00am on Tuesday. A total of 1,025 patients diagnosed with dengue are now receiving treatment at 41 government and private hospitals in Dhaka while 47 outside the city, it said.

However, four deaths caused by dengue have been reported in hospitals this year, the DGHS added.

Unofficial sources from different hospitals said at least six people, who were infected with dengue, died in the country this year.

A total of 3,446 dengue patients were hospitalised across the country, including in Dhaka city, from January to August 3 this year.
