A Dhaka court on Monday placed physician Ishrat Rafique Ishita and her associate Shohidul Islam Dinar on a six-day remand each in two separate cases filed on charges of possessing narcotics and scamming people with forged certificates of recognition.

Metropolitan Magistrate Ashek Imam passed the orders after Shah Ali Police Station produced the two accused before the court seeking 10 days remand for interrogation in the two cases.

According to remand petitions, the two had narcotics at their residence at Shah Ali area, cheated people with forged certificates of recognition, and trained physicians to treat Covid-19 without authorisation.

Opposing the remand petitions, the defence lawyers submitted two separate petitions, seeking bail for the accused claiming their clients as ‘innocent’.

After hearing on the petitions, the court turned down the defence pleas and placed the accused on remand in the cases.
