Nearly 300 more dengue patients hospitalised

The dengue situation has been deteriorating in the country particularly in Dhaka city as around 300 more dengue patients were hospitalised in the country in the last 24 hours till Monday morning.

The number of single-day dengue patient has been increasing day by day and it is taking an alarming turn as the number of dengue patients hospitalised in July has surpassed the number of patients hospitalised last year.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), 524 dengue patients were hospitalised in only two days of current month August, 2286 dengue patients were hospitalised in July, 272 in June, 43 in May, three in April, 13 in March, nine in February and 32 in January.

It said over 100 single-day dengue patients were hospitalised for 10 consecutive days in 24 hours till Monday morning as earlier 237 dengue patients were reported on Sunday.

The DGHS said 279 new patients were hospitalised in the capital and eight patients were outside the city in the last 24 hours till 8am on Monday.

Of the total 978, a total of 940 patients diagnosed with dengue are now receiving treatment at 41 government and private hospitals in Dhaka while 38 outside the city, it said.

However, four deaths caused by dengue have been reported in hospitals this year, the DGHS added.

The unofficial sources from different hospitals said at least six people, who were infected with dengue, died in the country this year.

A total of 3,182 dengue patients were hospitalised across the country including in Dhaka city since January until August 2 this year.
