Arambagh Krira Sangha received a big blow as their 17 members -- including 14 local players, head coach Sheikh Jahidur Rahman and two club officials -- tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday.
Club’s Vice-President Azaz Mohammed Jahangir told The Daily Sun that they underwent the second corona test at the Mugda Medical College on Sunday.
“We kept them under the strict health protocols in the camp. We hadn’t even let them go to their home during the Eid vacation. The reports will come today (Monday),” he said.
Arambagh have been struggling hard since the domestic season kicked off with the Federation Cup last December.
The club has been facing a relegation threat in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League after 8 years as they are currently at the bottom 13th of the points table with 5 points from a win, 2 draws and 14 defeats after round 19.
The league, which has been temporarily stopped due to the lockdown, is likely to be resumed on Tuesday. As per the previous draft fixture, Arambagh are scheduled to play against Sheikh Russel KC Ltd in their next match.
“If they test positive again, we will send them into quarantine. Other coaches and foreign players are tested negative. I don’t think that these reports will make an impact in our next matches because we have almost been relegated from the ongoing league,” Azaz concluded.
