Huge stolen fabric seized, 3 arrested

Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested three people and recovered Tk 800,000 worth of 90 rolls of fabric stolen from a factory recently.

A team of DB Cyber and Special Crime Division of the DMP nabbed the trio – Asaduzzaman Molla Asad, Al Amin alias Sarwar and Abed Ali – from Uttara in the capital and Kapasia Upazila in Gazipur on Thursday.

Harun-Ur-Rashid, joint commissioner (DB, Dhaka North) of the DMP, disclosed the information to journalists at the DMP Media Centre in the capital on Sunday.

He said on receiving information that some ‘thieves’ with a covered van were staying in Abdullahpur Dour Bridge, the team raided the spot and held Asad with the covered van.

His information led to the arrest of two others and recovery of the cloths from a storehouse at Chandpur in the upazila.

The officer said they are certain that the materials were stolen from the factory of Noman Group.

He said that the three intended to sell the cloths to a businessman of Gazipur.

Asad took jobs in various garment factories and stole fabric, he said, adding that two cases were filed against him at Kaliganj and Tongi East Police Stations.

Another case was lodged against Asad and two others with Turag Police Station in relation to the recovery of the stolen goods.

Deputy Commissioners of Media and Public Relations Division and Cyber and Special Crime Division Faruk Hossain and Shariful Islam were present at the press briefing.
