Flights of Biman Bangladesh Airlines on seven international routes have been suspended until August 15, said a notice on the website of Biman.

According to sources at office of the national flag carrier, flights to Manchester in the United Kingdom, Medina in Saudi Arabia, Bangkok in Thailand, Kuwait, Kathmandu in Nepal, Kolkata and Delhi in India will not operate during the period due to a spike in coronavirus infection, passenger crisis and travel ban on different countries.

During the beginning of the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020, Biman suspended all flights to these international routes except for Kuwait and Kolkata. However, flights to Kuwait and Kolkata were later suspended due to travel ban.

Also the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh imposed a ban on passenger flights on international and domestic routes.

The ban was later extended to April 14, April 30, May 7, May 16 and May 30 in coordination with public holidays. Since June 1 last year, flights were allowed on domestic routes with a number of restrictions, including strict maintenance of health guidelines. Later international flights were allowed to operate gradually.
