Police recovered the burnt body of a hawker from his residence at Kamrangirchar area in the capital on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Tarikul Islam Khokon, 55. But, police couldn’t confirm if it was a murder incident.
They recovered the burnt body from a room on the third floor of the five-storey building. His bed sheet and mattress were found burnt, he said.
According to the police officer, Khokon, a hawker by profession, rented a two-room flat on the third floor. He lived in a room and sublet another. Those whom he sublet the room were staying in their villages during the Eid vacation.
A tenant on the fourth floor of the building saw fumes rising from the flat in the morning and informed police and fire service of the matter. About the cause of his death, the OC said they were not sure whether it was an unnatural death or a murder.
The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy. After receiving the autopsy report, the exact reason could be known, he added.
The Crime Scene unit of the CID visited the spot and collected evidence.
