4 UPDF men held with firearms in Rangamati

Four members of United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF, Prasit faction) were held on Saturday by an army patrolling team from Langadu upazila of Rangamati.

The arrestees are Suren Chakma, 36, Annasang Chakma, 45, Anil Chakma, 19 and Saimon Chakma, 40.

On the basis of intelligence information, an army patrol team conducted an operation in Kattali area of Langadu upazila of Rangamati district and arrested the four with weapons on Saturday, says an ISPR release.

The team also seized one AK-22 rifle, 77 rounds of ammunition, one magazine, one walkie-talkie set, one solar charger, extortion collection receipt book, 4 mobile sets, 1 wrist watch, 1 fake ID Card, banners with anti-state slogans, Tk 63,592 and other equipment from the detainees.

The detainees had been creating unrest in various upazilas of Rangamati for a long time through terrorist activities and extortion. All these terrorists are known to be active members of the armed wing of the UPDF (Prasit) party.

Legal action is being taken against the detainees.

Army will continue such operations to keep the security situation in the Chattogram Hill Tracts stable.
