Bashundhara Group distributes relief among helpless people

Bashundhara Group, a leading business conglomerate of the country, distributed relief items and face masks among helpless people at various places in Bogura district on Saturday.

The Kaler Kantho, one of the reputed Bengali national dailies of Bashundhara Group, provided relief through its social organisation Shuvasangha.

In Kahalu upazila, 300 destitute families received relief from Shuvasangha and expressed deep satisfaction. The relief distribution programme took place at Kahalu Government College field.

Speaking on the occasion, Kahalu Upazila Parishad Chairman Al Hasibul Hasan Suruj said, “The working class of people and low-income group are worst affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Against the backdrop, Bashundhara Group has stood by helpless people. I express thanks to the Group authorities for the nobility. All corporate houses should assist the government in the critical juncture of the country.”

UNO Masudur Rahman, Kahalu Government College Principal Prof Dr Abul Hossain Talukder, OC Ambar Hossain and Shuvasangha Director Zakaria Jaman, among others, were present.

Besides, 300 distressed families received relief and face masks from Bashundhara Group on Mansur Hossain Degree College premises in Nandigram upazila of Bogura.

Aitun Ara, a helpless woman with broken legs, expressed joy after receiving relief in the critical stage of life.

“I cannot move and work for broken legs. I have no son to look after. Bashundhara relief is of great help to me,” she said.

Nandigram UNO Shifa Nusrat, Upazila Parishad vice-chairman Sraboni Akter Banu, upazila Awami League acting general secretary Anwar Hossain Rana and Shuvasangha director Zakaria Jaman, among others, were present. In Shibganj upazila, Shuvasangha distributed relief and masks among 300 insolvent families on the same day. The relief items were distributed at Shibganj Pilot Model High School compound.

Attending the programme, Shibganj upazila chairman Firoz Ahmed Rizu said, “The countrymen have been crippled by corona for one and a half years. The pandemic has taken a heavy toll on the day labourers and marginal class of people. Bashundhara Group has rightly come up with the relief for the destitute amid the tough time. The response of other corporate houses is unfortunately poor.”
