4th industrial revolution to depend on 5G: Jabbar

Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar said that the fourth industrial revolution will be built on 5G technology.

The minister said, “The 5G connection is the digital highway for achieving fourth industrial revolution.”

He emphasised the need for innovation in digital transformation to meet the challenges of the fourth industrial revolution.

The minister made this observations in a webinar titled "Preparing Bangladesh for the Fourth Industrial Revolution: Digital Transformation in Innovation and Research" organised by World University on Friday.

World University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Abdul Mannan Chowdhury presided over the webinar, while Bangladesh Awami Juba League Legal Secretary Barrister Syed Saidul Haque Sumon addressed the meeting.

The minister said that the government has already completed preparations to build digital highway of this technology which will start by 2021.

He informed that work has been initially started to provide 5G connection in 5 economic zones considering the essential demand for foreign investment in the zones.

The minister focused on innovation to ensure sustainable development of Bangladesh by saying that through innovation, China is emerging as a major economic power in the world. 65 per cent of the country's young population needs to be developed as human resources by the digital transformation of education which has to be started from primary school, the minister added.

To continue the digital transformation of primary and secondary, the higher education level also needs to pay more attention to innovation and research, he also stated.
