3m doses of Sinopharm vaccine arrive

Some 30 lakh Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine doses arrived in Bangladesh from China between Friday early morning and Thursday night.

Three separate flights of Biman Bangladesh Airlines brought the vaccines from China, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) sources said.

The first flight carrying the vaccines landed at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 10:15pm on Thursday night. The second flight arrived at around 1:14 am and the third flight arrived at 5:37am on Friday.

With this China has sent a total of seven million Sinopharm vaccines to Bangladesh in three consignments.

Earlier in the first two consignments, four million doses of Sinopharm vaccine came here from China.

The government has bought 1.5 crore vaccines in three months from China's Sinopharm. Bangladesh will get another eight million doses of vaccine from Sinopharm.

Apart from this, China also has given 11 lakh vaccines of Sinopharm as a gift to Bangladesh in two phases.

Meanwhile, the health and family welfare ministry sources said more 13 lakh of AstraZeneca vaccine is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka from Japan this week.

In first consignment of this week, around 7.8 lakh AstraZeneca vaccines may come on Saturday and rest six lakh may arrive on Wednesday, the sources added.

Earlier, Bangladesh received the first consignment of 2,45,200 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine from Japan on July 24.
