Stocks witness gaining streak

Dhaka Stock Exchange continued to gain for the second consecutive session on Thursday and also made a slightly improved turnover.

DSEX, the prime index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went up by 8.06 points or 0.13 per cent to settle at 6,425.

Two other indices also ended higher with the DS30 Index, comprising blue chips, rose 4.39 points or 0.19 per cent to finish at 2,327 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) advanced 4.64 points or 0.33 per cent to close at 1,401.

Losers took a strong lead over the gainers, as out of 374 issues traded, 159 advanced, 167 declined and 48 issues remained unchanged on the DSE trading floor.

A total of 234,503 trades were executed in the day’s trading session with a trading volume of 506.98 million shares and mutual fund units.

The daily trade turnover stood at Tk 15.21 billion on the DSE, which was 11.79 per cent higher than the previous day’s lowest turnover of Tk 13.61 billion.

Beximco dominated the turnover chart with shares worth about Tk 609 million changing hands, closely followed by GPH Ispat (Tk 510 million), SAIF Powertec (Tk 358 million), British American Tobacco bangladesh Company (Tk 277 million) and Active Fine Chemicals (Tk 244 million).

Coppertech Industries was the day’s top gainer, rising 10 per cent, closely followed by AFC Agro Biotech, Metro Spinning, Deshbandhu Polymer, Far Chemical Industries, Al-Haj Textile Mills, Far East Knitting & Dyeing Industries, Central Pharmaceuticals, Sonali Paper & Board Mills and Khan Brothers PP Woven Bag Industries.

Zeal Bangla Sugar Mills was the worst loser, shedding 5.35 per cent, closely followed by Central Insurance Company, NRB Commercial Bank, Delta Life Insurance Company, Shinepukur Ceramics, Eastern Insurance Company, Reliance Insurance, Global Insurance Company, Rupali Insurance Company and Mercantile Insurance Co.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also rebounded with the CSE All Share Price Index – CASPI –gaining 13.69 points to settle at 18,635 and the Selective Categories Index – CSCX rising 7.94 points to close at 11,190.25.

Of the issues traded, 138 declined, 141 advanced and 36 issues remained unchanged on the CSE.

The port city’s bourse traded 18.23 million shares and mutual fund units with turnover value of Taka 458.48 million.
