Law enforcers nabbed 566 people and fined 443 vehicles Tk 1,021,000 in different parts of the capital on charges of breaching health guidelines on Monday, the fourth day of the second-phase nationwide 14-day strict lockdown.
Besides, 164 people were fined on the same charges.
Police set up barricades and checkpoints in all important points of the city to monitor traffic movement as well as people.
Despite the strict lockdown, hundreds of people were returning to the capital via Daulatdia-Paturia and Banglabazar-Shimulia ferry terminals.
On Monday morning, people were seen boarding ferries. Many of them were not even wearing masks let alone abide by health guidelines.
Shihab Uddin, Manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Daulatdia Ghat, said, “A limited number of ferries are plying to deal with emergencies. However, some passengers and private cars are also getting on these ferries along with emergency service vehicles. They are being asked not to embark on humanitarian grounds.”
