Bangladesh T20I skipper Mahmudullah on Sunday heaped praise on youngster Shamim Hossain and all-rounder Soumya Sarkar for their valuable contributions that helped Bangladesh complete the T20 series win against hosts Zimbabwe.

The Tigers were left with a daunting task after the hosts made 193-5 in the series-deciding third and final T20I in Harare.

However, Soumya struck a brilliant 68 off 49 balls while Shamim made a late cameo of unbeaten 31 off 15 balls which guided Bangladesh to 194-5 in 19.2 overs to complete a 2-1 series victory.

Bangladesh’s five-wicket win over the hosts also ensured them completing their Zimbabwe tour with winning all three series across formats.

The Tigers previously won both the one-off Test series and the three-match ODI series by 1-0 and 3-0 margin respectively.

Bangladesh also started the T20I series on a winning note but the hosts made a comeback in the second game by winning that game to turn the last game of the series into an unofficial final.

“The boys showed their character, everybody contributed. In the end, Shamim played a crucial knock and all in all it was a good show by the batting unit,” Mahmudullah said after the match.

“I think Soumya is a useful all-rounder. When I gave him the ball he got me two wickets and when the team needed him to stand up with the bat, he did it,” he added.

Soumya, who was named player of the match as well as player of the series after scoring 126 runs and picking three wickets in the series, was satisfied with his contribution to the team in the series.

“I wasn’t thinking about my batting position. The only thing I was thinking is that I need to give my best and if I can do that it will be good for me. I am happy to be the man of the series but the most important thing is that I played well,” Soumya said after the game.

“I didn’t try to push anything when they were bowling with the new ball because it was coming fast and slow and the bounce was also not even as some balls were keeping low while others were carrying good height.

“So I was waiting for one big over because I knew when we can have one big over the momentum will come on our side. I was only trying to hit one boundary in every over,” he added.

Youngster Shamim said that he was happy to mark his international debut with a series win.

“I’m really happy that my international career started with a series win. It’s good for me as well as my team,” he said, who made his international debut during the second game of the series.

“During the last match, I couldn’t finish the game but I’m happy to finish the match today,” he added.
