Ramna Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) came to know about a gang involved in burglary in the guise of domestic workers in the country.
The members of the gang take job at different houses and steal cash and valuables from the houses.
Mahbub Alam, joint commissioner (DB-Dhaka South) of DMP, briefed this to reporters at the DMP media centre on Sunday.
The officer said that Nupur was arrested following a theft case with Rampura Police Station two days ago.
Ramna DB began a shadow investigation into the case and arrested Nupur with a gold chain, a bangle, a ring and Tk 5,000 in cash which she stole from a residence on Rampura High School Lane on July 23, he said.
Nupur told police during the interrogation that she was a member of a gang involved in burglary in the house as domestic worker. “The members of the racket take jobs at different houses as domestic workers and steal cash, gold ornaments and other valuables and flee the houses with booty,” the officer said.
DB Joint Commissioner Mahbub urged all the residents of the capital to appoint domestic helps after receiving necessary information such as photocopies of their NID cards and exact addresses.
