Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) plans to start its 1000-bed field hospital for Covid-19 patients on July 31 in a bid to ensure their proper treatment during the surge of the coronavirus infection.
“We hope to start the field hospital on July 31 to ensure proper treatment of the Covid-19 patients,” Prof Dr Md Sharfuddin Ahmed, vice-chancellor of the BSMMU, told the Daily Sun on Sunday.
While visiting the field hospital, Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque on Sunday announced the launching date of the 1000-bed hospital.
"The Covid-19 infection in the country is on the rise and it may result in hospital-bed crises if the coronavirus infection cases are not controlled," he said.
The minister said the government has already made some hospitals in the capital dedicated for Covid-19 patients and opened Covid-19 units in some other hospitals.
Mentioning that the government has planned to set up five field hospitals in Dhaka for the Covid-19 patients, he hoped that patients can be admitted to the BSMMU field hospital from next week.
