‘Mukh O Mukhosh’ actress Zahrat Ara passes away

Actress Zahrat Ara, who starred in ‘Mukh O Mukhosh’, the first Bengali film made with sound in the then East Pakistan, passed away in London. She was in her late 80s. 

Zahrat Ara breathed her last in an elderly care home on 19 July due to long-term health complications, her family friend Ferdous Rahman told the media.

‘Mukh O Mukhosh’ (The Face and the Mask) was the first Bengali language feature film made in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). The film was produced by Iqbal Films and directed by Abdul Jabbar Khan.

‘Mukh O Mukhosh’ was released in East Pakistan on 3 August 1956. It was released in Dhaka, Chittagong, Narayanganj, and Khulna. The movie was a great success as viewers thronged to watch the first film made in the region.
