Domestic flights of Biman Bangladesh Airlines and US-Bangla Airlines are carrying passengers of international flights amid the countrywide strict lockdown.
According to the sources at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA), Biman, the national flag carrier, operated two domestic flights and private airliner US-Bangla conducted five domestic flights on Friday.
Among the flights, Biman operated two connecting flights to Chattogram and Sylhet while US-Bangla conducted two flights to Chattogram and one flight to Sylhet, Syedpur and Jashore.
A small number of passengers returning from and to abroad are boarding on their flights, following health guidelines.
Earlier on Thursday, the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) suspended all flights on domestic routes except the flights used to carry emergency medicines and relief materials amid restrictions.
However, considering the sufferings of the expatriates returning home and catching a flight from Dhaka, CAAB announced a decision to resume flights only for them later on the same day.
“To facilitate the movement of the international flights’ passengers destined for different parts of Bangladesh, CAAB decided to relax the restrictions imposed on the domestic flights and allowed them to continue the scheduled domestic flights of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, US-Bangla Airlines and Novo Air to carry only the passengers of international flights,” said the CAAB circular.
Airlines were asked to ensure that the domestic flight tickets are issued only to the passengers having international air tickets and the documents pertaining to their international flight should be checked as well.
