A mobile court of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) fined the lessee of Gabtoli permanent cattle market Tk 1 million for breaching health guidelines.

Besides, they stopped tax collection at the market for an hour.

Executive Magistrate and Zonal Executive Officer of DNCC Saleha Binte Siraj imposed the fine on Md Lutfor Rahman during a sudden visit by DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam to the market.

Talking to reporters, Atiqul said there was no entry or exit points on the market. Besides, he said, visitors were without masks.

“The health guidelines have been ignored blatantly at Gabtoli cattle market. The punishment was given to the lessee for the first time this year,” Atiqul said.

He also warned lessees of other cattle markets about the punishment.

“We have given proper support and adequate numbers of volunteers to ensure health rules, but the lessees are indifferent to it. They are just out to make money. Things can’t go on like this,” Atiqul said.

He urged all the lessees to play a proactive role in ensuring health guidelines.

About the waste of sacrificial animals, Atiqul said, “We will engage 11,000 cleaners for the management of sacrificial animal waste. Besides, our ward councilors will work at the field level to get rid of it.”
