Face masks continue to be worn as people walk past restaurants open for business in Los Angeles, one day before the state full reopening of its economy since the first statewide shutdown in March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Los Angeles county sheriff's office will not enforce a new mandatory indoor mask mandate set to go into effect at midnight, it said in a statement released on Saturday, as Covid infections and hospitalizations continued to rise. Health authorities said Thursday that wearing a face mask in indoor public establishments will again be mandatory in Los Angeles starting this weekend due to a steady increase in Covid-19 infections and hospitalizations.
