To everyone’s utter astonishment, a woman using different names and addresses married a number of Islamic clerics and swindled them out of more than Tk 10 million.
Even more surprising is that she lived with two husbands at the same flat, but the husbands could not find it out.Rapid Action Battalion-3 (RAB) on Saturday arrested the woman, Shahnaz Parveen alias Sanu, 39, of Demra in Narayanganj. Bina Rani Das, operations officer of the RAB-3, revealed it to the Daily Sun on Sunday.
Three fake NID cards, three fake birth certificates, three chequebooks, one marriage certificate, three NID cards belonging to other people and two mobile phone sets were seized from her, the officer said.
Bina Rani, also additional superintendent of police, said, “The woman married a lot of men. We have just found specific evidence and information on five marriages. The victims are Islamic clerics.”
She said Sanu pretending to be a pious woman made friends with the clerics on social networking websites, including Facebook, married them and deceived them out of a huge amount of money.
According to the officer, the real husband of the woman has been staying in Saudi Arabia for the last few years. The couple has a 21-year-old daughter and two sons.
Her husband is sending money to them every month, but Sanu chose the path of unfair means to make a quick buck in absence of her husband.Sanu was held after Waliullah, who provided her Tk 1.2 million to go to Australia, filed a case accusing her of fraud. She pretended to be in love with Waliullah and got married to him on December 25, 2020 concealing that she had already been married with three children. During marriage registration, she submitted a fake NID card.
After marriage, she managed to convince him that she would take him to Australia on a business visa and took the money which he collected by selling a piece of land. Bina Rani said, “Sanu took about Tk 10 million from her so-called husbands. She lived with two husbands at a flat, but none could realise it.”
A case was filed against her at Demra Police Station on Saturday, said the officer.
