Former member of Planning Commission Shamsul Alam has taken oath as the state minister for planning of the incumbent cabinet led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

President Abdul Hamid administered his oath on Sunday evening at a ceremony at Bangabhaban, the official residence of the President, in the city.

Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam conducted the oath taking ceremony in the presence of some ministers due to the ongoing surge of coronavirus.

As per the custom, the Prime Minister was present at such ceremony but the premier skipped the event due to the pandemic.

Earlier in November, state minister for religious affairs Faridul Haque Khan Dulal also took oath in absence of the premier due to the Covid-19 situation.

Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, Law Minister Anisul Huq, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Agriculture Minister Abdur Razzaque, Education Minister Dipu Moni, Local Government and Rural Development Minister Tazul Islam and Planning Minister MA Mannan, among others, were present.

As Alam is not an MP, he took the oath as the state minister for planning under technocrat quota.
