‘Criminal’ killed in Cox's Bazar ‘shootout’

COX'S BAZAR: A suspected criminal was killed in a 'gunfight' with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in the district town early hours of Saturday.

Deceased Ashraf Ali alias Ashu Ali, 25, was the son of Jafar Alam, a resident of BGB camp forest office area.

Acting on tip-off, RAB-15 squadron leader Tanvir Hasan said a team of the elite force conducted a drive at Shahityik Palli Borobeel Math area at early hours.

Sensing presence of the team, the gang started opening fire. RAB members also fired back in self-defence.

Ashu was caught in the line of fire, eye witnesses said.

He was rushed to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared them dead.

An LG, shooter gun and two bullets were seized from his possessions.

A total of 12 cases including murder were filed against Ashu.
