187 more die of corona, 12,148 infected

A total of 187 more people died and 12,148 got infected with coronavirus in the last 24 hours till Friday morning, showing a slight fall in both fatalities and infections from the contagious virus. 

Single-day 226 corona deaths and 12,236 cases were recorded during the same period of the previous day. 

Of the new 187 deaths, 68 were recorded in Dhaka division followed by 36 in Chattogram, 14 in Rajshahi, 39 in Khulna, seven in Mymensingh, six in Rangpur, nine in Sylhet and eight in Barishal divisions, according to a report of Directorate of General of Health and Health Services (DGHS)

Of the 12,148 new cases, 4,949 were in Dhaka division, 463 in Mymensingh, 2,330 in Chattogram, 1,045 in Rajshahi, 745 in Rangpur, 1,497 in Khulna, 535 in Barishal and 584 in Sylhet division.

The tally shows that the highest corona deaths and cases were recorded in Dhaka division in the last 24 hours till 8:00am.

 Highest 230 corona deaths were recorded on July 11 while highest 13,768 cases on July 13 in the country.

The country has seen more than hundred single-day deaths from the virus for the last 20 consecutive days

while the daily detection of over 8,000 cases for the 13 days in a row.

A total of 2,962 people died and 1,71,664 got infected with the deadly pathogen across the country in 16 days of July which is the highest compared to the same period during the pandemic.

With the detection of new 12,148 corona cases in the last 24 hours, the total number of cases has risen to 10,83,922 in the country. The daily infection rate has risen to 28.96 percent during the time.

A total of 17,465 corona patients have died in the country so far with the latest single-day 187 new deaths. The death rate has remained unchanged at 1.61 percent.

Around 8,536 corona-infected people have recovered in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of people recovered to 9,14,343 till the day. The recovery rate has declined to 84.36 percent.

The DGHS report said infection rate has also risen as 15:08 percent of the samples have been diagnosed with corona till the date while 28.96 percent samples diagnosed with the virus in a day.

A total of 41,947 samples, out of 45,045 collected, were tested at 627 labs in the country during the period, the report said. A total of 71,86,367 samples have been tested so far across the country.

The first corona case was detected in the country on March 8 last year while the first death from the virus was recorded on March 18 the same year.

Hospital sources said corona situation continues to worsen in several districts across the country, including Dhaka city as a large number of people are not undergoing corona test even though they have symptoms.
