RANGPUR: Rangpur division recorded lowest 19.57 percent positivity rate and five deaths on Thursday for the first time since the corona situation started deteriorating in recent weeks.
Health officials said the number of corona cases rose to 35,778 as 745 new patients were reported after testing 3,807 collected samples of Rangpur division at the positivity rate of 19.57 percent on Thursday.Earlier, the daily positivity rates were 26.03 percent on Wednesday, 26.03 percent on Wednesday, 29.89 percent on Tuesday, 31.84 percent on Monday, 31.44 percent on Sunday and 34.84 percent on Saturday last in the division.
The district-wise break up of total 35,778 patients now stands at 7,737 in Rangpur, 1,867 in Panchagarh, 2,729 in Nilphamari, 1,931 in Lalmonirhat, 2,579 in Kurigram, 5,030 in Thakurgaon, 10,973 in Dinajpur and 2,932 in Gaibandha of the division
“During the last 24 hours ending at 8 am on Friday, five patients died of corona, the lowest number of casualties in a day in recent weeks, in the division,” said Focal Person of the corona and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr ZA Siddiqui.
The five new casualties were reported from Rangpur, Nilphamari, Panchagarh and Dinajpur districts of the division.
“With this, the total number of casualties rose to 716 in all eight districts of Rangpur division,” Dr Siddiqui said.
The district-wise break up of the 716 fatalities stands at 144 in Rangpur, 237 in Dinajpur, 134 in Thakurgaon, 51 in Nilphamari, 38 in Kurigram, 35 in Panchagarh, 34 in Gaibandha and 43 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division.The average casualty rate currently stands at two percent in the division.
Acting Divisional Director (Health) Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam said a total of 1,86,588 collected samples were tested till Thursday, and of them, 35,778 were found Covid-19 positive with an average positivity rate of 19.17 percent in the division.
Since the outbreak of the pandemic, the total number of healed corona patients reached 25,950 with recovery of 396 more infected patients on Thursday in the division where the average recovery rate currently stands at 72.53 percent.
The 25,950 recovered patients include 5,748 of Rangpur, 973 of Panchagarh, 1,994 of Nilphamari, 1,385 of Lalmonirhat, 1,774 of Kurigram, 3,370 of Thakurgaon, 8,743 of Dinajpur and 1,963 of Gaibandha districts in the division.
Among the 35,778 infected patients, 609 are undergoing treatments at isolation units, including 26 critical patients at ICU beds and 11 at High Dependency Unit beds, after recovery of 25,950 patients and 716 deaths while 8,939 are remaining in home isolation.
“Meanwhile, the number of citizens who got the first dose of the corona vaccine rose to 6,79,752, and among them, 3,89,354 got the second dose of the jab till Thursday in the division,” Dr Islam said.
Talking to the agency, Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu called upon common people to abide by the health directives to contain spread of the coronavirus.
