Bangladesh Bank released new currency notes worth about Tk300 billion to meet the people’s hefty demand of new notes on the eve of Eid-ul-Azha.

The notes will be released in phases through different commercial banks in the country.

There will be no special arrangement for distribution of the notes from the BB headquarters and divisional offices of the central  bank amid the worsening coronavirus situation.

According to currency management department of BB, the new currency notes would be distributed to the commercial banks as per their demand.

The currency notes include from Tk 2 to Tk 100, BB officials said.

Earlier ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, the central bank released new notes of Tk40 billion through the commercial banks.

The new notes add a new dimension to the festivity as many young people like to get new currency notes as a gift from their elders on the occasion of Eid festival, an official of currency department said.

However, the release of new the notes would not result in an increased money circulation in the market and would not impact inflation, the officer also said.

The central bank would withdraw the same amount of old currency notes from the market instead, the officer added.
