PUST doctor Ratan dies of corona

Shahidul Islam Ratan, deputy chief medical officer of Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST), died of coronavirus on Tuesday.  He was 46.

A few days ago Dr Shahidul Islam Ratan posted a status on his facebook account where he said he and his family are infected with the virus. He was receiving treatment at his home according to the doctor’s advice.

His condition deteriorated on Tuesday and he was struggling for shortness of breath. He died on the way to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital around afternoon.

PUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr M Rostam Ali and Treasurer Professor Dr Md Anwar Khasru Parvez and teachers of the university have expressed profound shock at the death of Dr Ratan.

They also prayed for the salvation of the departed soul and extended deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.

Dr Ratan was buried at his family graveyard at Ramchandrapur village of Poba upazila in Rajshahi.

He passed MBBS from Rajshahi Medical College and joined PUST on October 30 in 2013 as a senior medical officer.

He was promoted to deputy medical officer a few years later. He lived at his home in Rajshahi as the university was closed due to the pandemic.
