CHATTOGRAM: A woman was stabbed to death and three others were injured in an attack by a youth at Banshkhali upazila in the district on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Fatema Begum, 46, wife of Mostak Ahmed of Shilkup area under the upazila while the injured were Fatema’s daughters Pakhi Akter, 20, Rabeya Begum, 35, and Rabeya’s daughter Brishti, 9.Police also arrested the killer identified as Md Ehsan, 22, of Maijpara area under the upazila, after the murder.
Sources said Fatema was a rural baidya who used to provide herbal treatment and other spiritual medicine to people.
Ehsan also took a tabeez (amulet) from Fatema for developing love affair with a girl.
He became ill after taking it and the tabeez didn’t work as he wanted.
The angry youth went to Fatema’s residence in the Shilkup area around 6:30am and asked explanation in this regard. Fatema gave a green coconut to Ehsan as medicine and a knife to cut it. At one stage, Ehsan stabbed Fatema with the knife at that time. He also injured Fatema’s daughters and granddaughter while they tried to resist him.
The injured were rushed to local hospital and later shifted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where on duty doctors declared Fatema dead, said ASI Shilabrata Barua of the hospital police outpost.The injured were undergoing treatment at the hospital, he said. Officer in-Charge (OC) Md Shafiul Kabir of Banshkhali police station said locals detained the killer youth and handed over to police later. Filing of a case in this connection was under process, he added.
