Law enforcers arrested a Neo-JMB militant along with three bombs and bomb-making materials in a raid on a militant den in Kazipara area of Madanpur port in Narayanganj on Sunday night.

The arrested was identified as Major Osama alias Nayeem, a member of the military wing of Neo-JMB.

Members of the counter-terrorism unit of police cordoned off the militant hideout. Later, members of the bomb disposal unit and SWAT from Dhaka Metropolitan Police conducted the raid.

Three explosions rocked the area during the operation between 10:4pm and 11:10pm.

Md Asauduzzaman, chief of the counter-terrorism unit of police, said three bombs, four remote controls, bomb-making materials and a large number of jihad books were seized from the house during the raid.

He also said members of a bomb disposal unit defused the bombs at the spot.

Osama was an imam of a local mosque and used to live in a house beside it with his family. He conducted his militant activities from the house, the officer said.

‘Three days ago we also arrested three members of Neo-JMB from Mirpur. They are Abdullah Al Mamun, 25, Khalid Hasan Bhuiyan, 23, and Shafiqul Islam Hridoy, 18. Mamun, a native of Lalmonirhat, worked as the muezzin of the mosque.

“We got information about Major Osama from them,” Asaduzzaman added.

“We arrested him near his house on Sunday evening and later raided his house at night.”

However, the family of the arrestee was not at the house during the raid.

The house was being used as a den of extremists to make bombs. The bomb found near a police box in Siddhirganj of Narayanganj on May 17 was made at this house, police said.

Police’s Anti-Terrorism Unit is investigating the case.
