708 arrested for violating health rules

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 708 people from different parts of the capital for violating the health guidelines on Sunday, the 11th day of the ongoing strict shutdown.

Simultaneously, mobile courts fined 184 people for the same charges. DMP’s traffic department also fined 244 vehicles and realized taka 5,52,500 in this connection. 

Iftekharul Islam, the additional deputy commissioner of media and public relations division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police confirmed the news.

Police and RAB personnel were seen taking position at different parts of the capital on Sunday.  They were seen monitoring the movement of vehicles and people at checkpoints in the capital.

However, kitchen markets were found violating the government directives as they were not seen running their business in open spaces. Besides, some were seen ignoring health guidelines.

The numbers of private cars, microbus on the roads were higher than that of the previous days. There were some motorbikes and rickshaws available on roads and alleys in the capital.

The government has enforced the strict restrictions from 1 July to 14 July to stem the massive surge in Covid cases.
