Heavy rainfall, coupled with onrush of water from across the border, has inundated the low-lying areas in the northern region of the country.

People living in some low-lying areas of the region have been marooned due to flooding.

Many affected people took shelter in safe places. Many houses on the banks of the rivers and in char areas were submerged in floodwater. Standing crops on the farmlands have also been damaged. 

“The Padma River may remain steady in the next 24 hours, said Md. Arifuzzaman Bhuyan Executive Engineer of Flood Forecasting and Warning Center (FFWC).

The Teesta River was following above danger level at Dalia point on Friday, according to FFWC.

In Lalmonirhat, around 4,000 people at 40 villages under five upazilas have been marooned as water of Teesta is following above danger level.

In Sirajganj, around 15,000 people in five villages of Jalalpur union of Sirajganj's Shahjadpur upazila have been affected as the Jamuna River swelled alarmingly.
