Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Thursday detained more 1,077 people from various parts of capital for violating restrictions during the lockdown. Mobile courts also fined 318 people for the same charges.

Simultaneously, DMP is also raising awareness about health protocols and distributing masks and food on the eighth day of the lockdown.

Forty teams of police are patrolling the city streets and 17 checkpoints to control traffic, said Qudrat-e-Khuda, an additional deputy commissioner of DMP Lalbagh Division.

Police also distributed foods to 600 people affected by lockdown in the Lalbagh Division, he said.

Security forces are patrolling the streets to enforce restrictions. But more people were on the streets in many parts of the city on Thursday.

The numbers of coronavirus infections and deaths have already surpassed all previous records after the spread of the highly contagious Delta variant of coronavirus. But people are not paying heed to the advice of experts to follow health rules.

The authorities advised people through loudspeakers to stay at home and wear masks at Rampura Bazar, Shantinagar Bazar and Kakrail.

Rickshaws and cars crowded the checkpoints at Malibagh and Kakrail. Law enforcers fined many drivers for violation of lockdown rules.

Police and RAB personnel were seen taking position at different parts of the capital on Thursday.

Those, who failed to show 'movement pass' or any valid reason of going out, were fined.  However, offices, courts, public transit and shopping malls were shut during the lockdown.
