Work on river bank protection begins

GAIBANDHA: The river bank protection work in Bhushir vita area under Urya union of Fulchhari upazila in the district has started amid much enthusiasm.

On Monday afternoon, chief engineer of Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB), northern zone, Rangpur Jyoti Proshad Ghosh formally inaugurated the work dumping the geo textile sand bags at the vulnerable point.

The work began when the river erosion took serious turn in the area with the rise of water level in the Jamuna river.

BWDB has taken prompt initiative to protect river bank area from erosion with the cost of Tk 2.69 crore. 

Superintending engineer of BWDB Abdus Shahid, Upazila chairman GM selim Parvez, executive engineer of BWDB, Gaibandha Mokhlasur Rahman, sub divisional engineer ATM Rezanur Rahman, local elite and political leaders were present at the inaugural function of launching of river bank protection work.

Mokhlasur Rahman told that the work would be finished within two months.

The river bank protection work was also going on in Burirhaat area under Shaghata upazila in the district being implemented by BWDB here, he said.
