Members of Rapid Action Battalion-3(RAB) arrested five members, including the ringleader, of a gang with weapons from Hatirjheel in the capital on Monday.

The arrestees were identified as Anik Hasan alias Hiro Anik, the ring leader, 25, Shahidul Islam alias Ampul, 34, Abir Ahmed Rakib, 22, Sohag Hossain Arif, 36, and Hira, 22.

A foreign pistol, two bullets, five sharp weapons, 300 Yaba pills and some other things were seized from their possession.

Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director (Legal and Media Wing) of the RAB headquarters, briefed reporters on the matter at RAB media centre in Kawran Bazar of the city in the afternoon.

He said Anik was leading a gang comprising 20 to 25 members in Hatirjheel, Moghbazar and adjoining areas.  The members of the gang were involved in murders, drug trade, muggings, robbery and other types of crimes, he said, adding that Anik is wanted in nine criminal cases, including murder.

Ampul is wanted in six cases, Abir in two cases, Sohag in three cases and Hira in one case.

During the countrywide lockdown, Anik and his cohorts were delivering Yaba pills to homes of addicts.

After the murder of a youth named Arif at Moghbazar in 2016, Anik came into discussion. He used to sell drugs at Moghbazar, Madhubagh, Mirbagh, Pearabagh, Chairman Lane, Ambagan and Hatirjheel areas.

Anik had a connection with TikTok Hridoy Babu who was arrested in India for trafficking women there.
