QRT helps save baby’s life in Faridpur

FARIDPUR: Quick Response Team (QRT), a voluntary humanitarian group, here extended its supports to save the life of a baby by providing oxygen and arranging transportation amid the strict lockdown.

QRT, a voluntary wing of Bangladesh Awami Sechasebok League that have been performing 27 wards in Faridpur municipality to provide oxygen, ambulance, food stuffs for needy families, mask and sanitizer during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The three-week old baby covered with silky polythene was carried for 60-kilometer in a van pulled by its grandfather Syed Fayek Ali, 50, while it was drizzling on Sunday afternoon.    Ali started his journey from Faridpur General Hospital to his Balidia village under Mohammadpur thana of Magura district by paddling his motorised van.

“As I could not afford money, I was unable to manage any ambulance,” Ali told this correspondent in the Badarpur area of the town where the baby was found on the lap of its mother Sohana, 21.

The baby was suffering from a suffocation due to being covered in polythene as well as water was rolling down from the eyes of Sohana who was accompanied with her mother and mother-in-law on the van.

“I have never faced such a situation before but now I have to go quickly to save my son’s life,” Sohana repeatedly said. Being informed, Deputy Commissioner Atul Sarker supported Ali through QRT members who recovered the baby, providing oxygen and a car on the way.

Alhaj Mahadi Hasan Chisti, member of QRT and Sechasebok League was driving the steering while Foyshal Ahamed Robin, secretary (acting) of district Sechasebok League was maintaining oxygen with the assistance of Arif Sheikh.

After reaching his own house, Ali thanked the QRT members and saying: “I’m so lucky to meet you and able to bring my grandson at my doorstep.”

Sawkat Ali Zahid, district president of Bangladesh Awami Sechasebok League informed that they formed QRT, a voluntary wing of Bangladesh Awami Sechasebok League, which have been performing 27 wards in Faridpur municipality to provide oxygen, ambulance, food stuffs for needy families, mask and sanitizer during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The QRT team is engaged in bathing the dead patients affected by coronavirus and even laying to rest them at the graveyard following their religious custom during the lockdown period.

Deputy Commissioner of the district thanked the team members for doing such a job during the strict curb.
