Destitute, orphans enjoy wedding feast

MUNSHIGANJ: Local destitute and orphans of Joshurgaon village in Srinagar upazila had a nice and heavy meal on Friday noon after a mobile court foiled a wedding feast as it was arranged allegedly ignoring the lockdown restrictions.

The incident happened at about 12:00 noon on Friday at Nimaipara under Patabhogh union of the upazila.

Witnesses said the wedding between Md Babu, brother of Nazrul Islam, a former member of Ward No. 9 in Patabhogh union, and Badhon Akter, daughter of Md Shafiqul Islam was going on. Both the bride and bridegroom hailed from same village.

Executive magistrate of the mobile court and Srinagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Pranab Kumar Ghosh said some 400 guests were invited at the wedding ceremony, which was subseqently closed.

"Since the preparations for wedding were taken earlier, we asked to complete all the formalities on condition that the family of the bridegroom would leave the place with the bride," he said.

The UNO added he ordered to distribute the weeding foods among the poor and destitute."

The food, cooked for 400 guests, was later enjoyed by the local destitute and orphans.
