Two more burn victims of the massive explosion in the capital’s Moghbazar succumbed to their injuries in Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery on Thursday, raising the death toll to 11.
The deceased were identified as van driver Nur Nabi, 30, and Bengal Meat worker Mohammad Russell, 21.Nur Nabi died at Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of institute in the morning while Russell berated his last there at noon, said Dr Samanta Lal Sen, chief coordinator of the institute.
He said 90 percent of their bodies were burnt in the explosion.
Bazlur Rahman, paternal uncle of Russell, said his nephew was an honours second year student at a government college in Thakurgaon. He was the eldest among one son and two daughters of his parents.
As the college was closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, he came to the capital and took a job as salesman at Bengal Meat just five days before the explosion, he said.
Bacchu Mia, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost, said the bodies were sent to the hospital morgue.
On June 27, a big explosion took place in a three-storey building on Outer Circular Road at Boro Moghbazar in the capital.Fifty more people were also injured in the incident.
The authorities concerned of the government suspected that the incident might have happened due to the gas explosion.
