A Dhaka court on Sunday fixed August 10 for hearing on charge framing against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in 11 cases filed on charges of sabotage and sedition.

Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court set the fresh date for the indictment hearing.

Earlier, Khaleda’s appearance in the 11 cases was scheduled for June 9. Due to the worsening Covid-19 situation, normal judicial proceedings of the court were closed and no proceedings were held on that day.

During the BNP’s strike in early 2015, police filed eight cases with Darussalam Police Station and two with Jatrabari Police Station while a person filed a sedition case with a Dhaka court on charges of making seditious comments about the freedom fighters and the martyrs of the Liberation War.

A number of BNP leaders including Amanullah Aman, Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel and Sultan Salauddin Tuku were also charge-sheeted in the cases.

Khaleda Zia is convicted in two corruption cases and now out of jail following an executive order from the government. At present, the former Prime Minister is staying at her Gulshan residence in Dhaka.
