New army chief pays tribute to Bangabandhu

Newly-appointed Army Chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed pays tribute to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing a wreath at the portrait of the great leader at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in the capital’s Dhanmondi 32 area on Saturday. ISPR PHOTO

Newly-appointed Army Chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed paid tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing a wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu at the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi 32 in the city on Saturday.

Later, the Army Chief stood in silence in front of the portrait for a while. He then signed the visitors’ book kept there.

After visiting the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum, Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed paid tributes to the martyrs of Liberation War by placing a wreath at the National Memorial in Savar.

After placing the wreath, Army Chief gave Salam in honour of the brave martyrs. A smartly turned out contingent from Bangladesh Army presented guard of honour on the occasion. He then signed the visitors’ book kept there.

Later, the Army Chief visited the mazar of Bangabandhu in Tungipara of Gopalganj and paid tributes to Father of the Nation by placing a wreath.

A smart contingent of the Army presented guard of honor at that time. Army Chief also prayed for the departed soul of Bangabandhu and the martyrs of 15th August, 1975.

On Thursday, Army Chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed took the charge of Bangladesh Army for the next three years.
