74 drug sellers arrested in capital

The law enforcers in special anti-drug drives arrested 74 drug traders from different areas in the capital from Friday to Saturday morning.

A total of 40 cases were filed against the arrestees with different police stations under Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), said the media sections of the DMP and RAB-2.

Drugs, including Yaba, Ganaja and Phensedyl, have long been being sold at different points of Kawran Bazar.

On information, a team of the elite force conducted a special drive at Katpatti area of Kawran Bazar and arrested 25 drug dealers between 7:00pm and 9:00pm on Friday, said Abdullah Al Mamun, assistant director of the RAB-2.

Of the arrestees, 14 are men and 11 women, he said, adding that huge Yaba and Ganja were seized from them.

The arrestees are the members of a drug trading gang.  They had been selling drugs at various points of the city for a long, he said.

Three cases were filed against them with Tejgaon Police Station and Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station, the officer said. Meanwhile, different units of the DMP conducted several anti-drug drives and arrested 49 drug dealers from different parts of the city from Friday morning to Saturday morning, said a press release of the DMP Media Division.

The cops seized 1,522 Yaba pills, 250.4 grams and 190 purias of heroin, two bottles of Phensedyl and 25.950 kg of ganja from them.

A total of 37 cases were filed against the arrestees with various police stations under the DMP.

Most of the arrestees are also wanted in different drug related cases filed with different police stations in the city.  They were arrested in the cases but they returned to their old jobs after getting bails.
