Two found dead in Pabna

PABNA: Police recovered two bodies including a mentally challenged youth from two different places in Ishwardi upazila of the district.

The deceased were identified as Pakhi Khatun, 28, wife of Zahidul Islam of Purbotengri Eidgah Road area, and Chapa Islam, 28, of Awtapara Pashchimpara village, under the upazila. 

Pakhi's father Altaf hossain alleged that Zahidul used to torture her since his second marriage.

He alleged that, on Thursday, his second wife Rupa Khatun took Pakhi for a visit. During this visit she was poisoned through drinks. Subsequently, her daughter fell sick.

She was rushed to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor referred her to Pabna Sadar Hospital.

But, she died on the way on Friday morning while was being taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

Ishwardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Asaduzzaman Chowdhury said police detained Zahidul and his second wife Rupa in this connection.

Meanwhile, Chapa Islam was beaten to death by his neighbours on Thursday morning.

Local and police sources said Chamela Khatun of the village and his associates called the mentally-challenged youth to their house, where they beat him up to death.

They also tried to dump the body but could not do as the village police sensed the matter.

Being informed, police recovered the body and sent it to Pabna Sadar Hospital morgue, said OC Asaduzzaman. Chamela Khatun was also detained for questioning.
